The Night Before Christmas at the Scout Camp

This is what it is like at a Cat Scout camp on the night before christmas:

Twas the night
Before Christmas
When all through the camp
Not a Cat Scout was stirring
Not a candle or lamp.

The stockings all hung
By the campfire with care
In hopes
That Santy Claws
Soon would be there

The Cat Scouts were nestled
All safe in their beds
While visions of catnip toys
Danced in their heads

And Denmaster in her kerchief
And all of the cats,
Had just settled down
For a Christmas night nap.

When out by the fire
There arose such a clatter
Denmaster sprang from her tent
To see what was the matter

Away to the fire circle
She flew like a flash
Flipped on her flashlight
And exclaimed, Oh my gosh!”

The moon on the breast
Of the new fallen snow
Gave the lustre
Of midday
With the campfire glow.

When what
To her wandering eyes
Should appear
But a miniature sleigh
And eight Cat Scouts near.

They were bustling about
So lively and quick
She thought for a moment
She must be delirious or sick

More rapid than eagles
They decorated the camp
They trimmed
And they wrapped
And strung
Lights with a clamp

Now Obi
Now Raz
Now Tiger
Now Allie
On Mau
On Wren
On Shoko
And Dezi

To the top
Of the tent
To the top
Of the tree
Now decorate
Decorate
Decorate with glee!

As soaring birds
Before attentive
Kittens eyes fly
The scouts hustled
And bustled
With gleams in the eye.

So up
To the campfire
The gifts piled up
They wrapped
And they tagged
Lots of toys
And treats up!

And then
In a twinkling
Denmaster stared on in awe
At the prancing
And patting
Of each little paw.

As she drew in her head
And was turning around
Out from the tent
Santy Claws
Came with a bound.

He was dressed
All in fur
From his head
To his foot
And his clothes
Were all tarnished
With ashes and soot

A bundle of toys
He had stashed
By the tree
It was filled
With nip toys
Feather wands
And mousies

His eyes
How they twinkle
His dimples how merry
His cheeks
Were like roses
His nose like a cherry

His drawl little mouth
Said to Denmaster real low
These scouts you got here
Are amazing you know

They work right quick
They are sincere
And direct
They keep
Kittens on track
And act with respect.

He had a broad face
And laughed nice and loud
When they offered him
Catnip tea and meowed.

He was chubby and plump
A right jolly old elf
Denmaster laughed when she saw him
In spite of herself

A wink of his eye
And a twist of his head
Soon let her know
She had nothing to dread

He joined in with the scouts
And went straight
To his bag
And filled
All the stockings
They had hung
With cat swag

An laying a finger
Along side his nose
An giving a nod
Back to the tent
He goes

He disappeared
In a sec
And the scouts
Were all done
And away
They all went
Back to the tents
One by one

Denmaster exclaimed
So in awe from the sight
Happy Christmas to all
And to all a goodnight

In a World of Trouble!

This is my brofur, Trouble. He is the only boycat in our home. He was rescued with us but is about 2 weeks older that me & Dora. Mom found him one day born in a pile of sawdust in her dad’s old workshop. He had 3 brofurs, all ginger kitties. His mother, Mella Carmella, moved him and his brofurs a few days later and Mom couldn’t find them. Then, Mella came up to the porch one day with a lil boy in tow and Mom named him “Ghost” because his ginger color was so pale. Well, Mom says that lil Ghost was a sweetheart. When the time came to rescue us kitties, Ghost was right there! Dad decided to change his name though… he said that he was a boy and that meant he would be trouble so he called him Trouble! MOL what a purrfect name for him!

Here is Trouble when we first all moved to Dads:

Then when he got a lil older:

Now, All Dora & I can figure is that Trouble does the things he does because he is a boy. He finds unique places to climb and sleep – I would never consider some of the places he goes!

The worst trouble ever caused by Trouble was when he climbed to the top of the refrigerator when Mom & Dad were away and jumped from the top to the counter across the way… the”kicker,” no pun intended, was that he kicked the freezer door wide open when he jumped!!! Of course, none of us could reach to close it… It sat like that for hours. I’ve NEVER seen Dad so mad as that time. He blocked off the top of the refrigerator and duct taped the freezer door shut. Mom waited till Dad left and laughed. She made us all feel a lil bit better.

Well thats a glimpse into the World of Trouble…. he’s my only brofur and even though he messes with us gals, we still love him. ❤ Tiger

Keeping Warm

20140126-162412.jpg

Hello! My name is Spooky and I’m an almost-9-year-old tortoise shell. I started life as a feral cat until I met my mom, and after quite some long time, I decided I wanted to trust her and be her cat. It was a good decision, as now I’m an indoor cat living in, what I would consider, a “cat’s paradise.” I am very quiet an reserved. I spend most of my time sitting peacefully on Mom’s lap or right next to her. Dad makes me nervous but I let him pet me once in a while. Trouble is my grandson – his mother, Mella Carmella, was my daughter. Tiger & Dora are my great-granddaughters – their mother, Buff Lady, was Mella’s daughter from a previous litter.

Now that you know a little about me, I would like to say that my area of expertise is in safety and health, as well as caring for kits. Mom always said I was a very good mother, ever since I had my first litter of kittens on her bed while she was a work one day. I chose her bad as it was the safest, warmest, softest place I could find. And I knew Mom would sleep somewhere else that night so she didn’t disturb my new little family.

I council all cats to please find a place to stay that is sheltered and as warm as possible in this terrible weather! It is much too cold to be out and about. Find a shed, garage to get into, a foundation to crouch near for radiant heat – maybe with a deck for shelter. I know this can be hard from my time living outside but you must try to do this. Please be safe!

It is nice to meet all of you & I will be talking to you all more in the future!

Waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy Behind!

Well….. what can we say? We haven’t been very good at keeping up with our blog! In fact we’ve been downright TERRIBLE at keeping up with it! So, lets try again. We may not get something up every day but we’ll try to do better than we have. We don’t have a theme either, really, so we are hoping to work into that as we go. Today we are lounging at home… trying to catch up on a lot of things with Moms help. Poor Dad isn’t feeling well so we are sitting & purring with him in turns to help him get better too. He thinks he ate something bad. Yuk!

So, as many of you already know, Dora, Trouble and I are members of the Cat Scouts. Spooky decided not to join for now. We are about to embark on Patrol Games. Our Patrol is called “Powerful Paws.” The games haven’t begun yet but we are very excited about it! Can’t wait to see what all it will entail. Cat Scouts is a great organization! We have met tons of great cats there & have lots of fun. Mom loves it too – she says the cats & Denmaster are so nice & its been enjoyable to engage with us in a different way. I think she enjoys the healthy competition as much as we do! We won a Neckerchief and Woggle from the Cardwood Derby that we had in the Scouts last fall. Ive attached a picture of me sporting it. I loved wearing it!

Well, Im going to sign off for today & put on my thinking cap so I can post something tomorrow! Thanks for bearing with us getting this going!

Are you Purrpared for Santa?

Good afternoon! My name is Tiger Harris and I am a girl. A lot of times people think the name “Tiger” is naturally a boy name, but it is good for girls too and it suits me just fine. I am excited to be participating in this blog with Dora, Trouble & Spooky. I hope you enjoy reading it and please feel free to comment!

So, the last 2 weeks of each year, we spend our time in the countryside at Mom’s family farm. I will say that it is a bit exciting always having people coming by to play with us, pet us, give us tasty treats etc. I especially enjoy watching out the window here. Our regular home is in a second story apartment in a boring little town. We used to have trees outside with birds but some big dirty men with saws cut them down and replaced them with some twigs sticking out of the ground that probably aren’t strong enough to hold a hummingbird… Boring! But out here, we can sit at the window and see the garden, greenhouse, driveway & fields. There is always something going on! We see mice sometimes too! And other cats and tons of birdies! There are people driving by on strange cars with huge rear wheels and no roof. There is sooo much to see. Sometimes we even see “wild creatures” and that is a little scary…

Santa is scheduled to come by a little later this week. I am hoping I have been a good enough kitty. This whole Santa thing is pretty curious to me. He supposedly comes at night but the past few years, I have peeked out the window and never caught a glimpse of him. You would think for all the things we can see out there that Santa might be among them. I’m going to try again this year and will let you know what happens. Signing off.

Christmas in the Countryside

20131220-030603.jpg

For the next two weeks we will be vacationing in the countryside at our mom’s family farm. This is the only time we really ever get away from home. We like the visit, just not the traveling. The question, as always, is Will Santa be able to find us? I am hoping yes, because I have been striving extra hard this year to be good and don’t want to miss out on any rewards that I might have earned.

Also, my sister Tiger brought up a good point: if Santa “sees you when your sleeping” and “knows when your awake” and “knows if you’ve been bad or good” doesn’t that make him an expert snoopervisor? If not, he’s a bit of a creeper!! There are a lot of cats to snoopervise let alone children! I wonder if he could use some help… I’m a good snoopervisor and maybe I could use it to earn some additional “good” credits just in case…
